Course Philosophy or Description:
Students in 6-8 grade band get their first experience to play in a big band. All band students must come prepared to class with their instrument, band book and folder to get full credit for that day’s class. Each student must rent or own an instrument to participate. Percussionists need a pair of drumsticks & a snare drum (purchased by the student) and are allowed to use the other school’s percussion equipment during class. At times drummers must take turns playing in class and may not all play a drum during each performance. If all drummers played a drum at the same time it would overpower the rest of the band.
Textbook:
Our students will use the book: Accent on Achievement Book 2. The book is purchased by the school for every student who participates. There is no charge to parents.
Major Skills and Songs that will be taught:
Our students will learn the major notes of the Bb scale. Other notes and songs that are appropriate for 6-8 grade will also be introduced that are included in the textbook: Accent on Achievement Book 2 plus pep band, band clinic songs & concert band songs.
