Course Philosophy or Description:
Description: Students in Music learn to sing in an ensemble, read music and perform for an audience. Students will also learn their L-J terms plus present a PowerPoint on their musician of choice. Students need to always come prepared to class and try their best during each class. Students are required to attend one after-school concert twice in a school year. We have one winter concert and one spring concert. Members are also required to attend GINW Vocal clinic.
Textbook: Variety of Music resources
Major Skills/Songs/Activities/Shows that will be taught:
sing 3 part music, identify different music theory terms, L to J music terms, popular songs, a Broadway show, Vocal clinic songs, Christmas songs.
Materials needed everyday in Music:
Folder with L to J terms, popular songs, Vocal clinic songs-during that time of year, Christmas songs-during that time of year.
Assessments / Grading
Grades will be based on:
Singing Ability/Theory: 40% (50% in 1st/3rd Q
PowerPoint: 20% (only in 4th Q)
Daily Effort: 30% (50% in 1st/3rd Q)
Vocal Clinic: 20% (only in 2nd Q)
Performances:10% (only in 2/4 Q)
Grading Scale
A - 93-100
B - 86-92
C - 78-85
D - 70-77
F - 0-69
Concerts:
Each year we participate in two concerts. One in the Winter - Dec. 8 at 6:30 and one in the Spring - April 25 at 6:30. Please make plans to attend both these concerts.
GINW Vocal Clinic:
Each year we participate in the Junior High vocal clinic at NW. They practice on 4 songs with Chapman, One R, and Cedar Hollow all day and end with a concert at 2:45. Please make plans to attend this all day. Nov. 9 is the date.
Classroom Policies, Procedures and Routines:
Be prepared with music materials
Only sing/talk when appropriate-(or when asked to)
Sit in assigned spot
Raise your hand when you have a question & wait to be called upon.
Get folders-music ready in first 5 min. L to J questions, warm ups, then rehearse pieces. Last 5 min put away folders exactly where they go ready for the next class.
Consequences:
1-verbal warning,
2-name on board,
3-conference with teacher/student-(decide on consequence),
4-conference with teacher/parent,
5-conference with teacher/principal/student.
Awards: Can attend a Lied Center show in Lincoln-need to pay ticket/fee.
Procedures for Non-Instructional Activities
Entering Classroom: enter quietly/appropriately & get folders ready for class.
Dismissal Procedures: exit quietly/appropriately & put folders away in exact spot ready for the next class.
Bathroom/Water: may use bathroom once during class if needed & get a drink of water at beginning or end of class.
